Jake Michael Singer (b. Johannesburg, 1991) is a transdisciplinary artist whose practice is primarily concerned with materiality and transformation of everyday objects and their teleologic evolution.
During the course of his 6 year career, Singer has participated in over 70 groups shows and 9 solo shows across Africa, Europe and North America. Solo shows include Gallery Tiny, New York (2020), THK Gallery, Cape Town (2019), Matter Gallery Toronto (2018), Kalashnikovv Gallery, Johannesburg (2018), Punt WG, Amsterdam (2017). Significant group shows include Matereality at Iziko National Gallery, Still here tomorrow to high five you yesterday at Zeitz MOCAA, Kampala Biennale curated by Simon Njami and Suba Biennale, Dakart, Senegal. Singer holds a degree from Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town (2013) and has studied at Central Saint Martins, London. He is the recipient of the Eduordo Vila Foundation Grant in 2016 and 2017. Permanent public sculptures include Dawn Chorus (2019) on the RMB Think Precinct and Roarks Evacuation Plan (2016) on the rooftop of August House which can be seen on the Johannesburg skyline.
